Kidney disease is a burgeoning problem in internal medicine, frequently associated with comorbidities such as hypertension and diabetes. This session will cover chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and dialysis or transplant-requiring complications. Students will learn about renal physiology, glomerulonephritis, and management of nephrolithiasis.
The session will also emphasize new developments in dialysis technologies, renal replacement therapies, and immunological principles of transplantation. Early detection of CKD and protection of the kidneys in diabetic patients through preventive nephrology strategies will be the focus. The session brings together clinical nephrology and translational research and presents an overview of kidney health in internal medicine.
